Editing a Data Leak Prevention (DLP) policy allows administrators to update existing detection rules, conditions, actions, or scope without creating a new policy. This helps keep data protection controls aligned with evolving business workflows, compliance requirements, and threat scenarios.
You may need to edit a DLP policy to:
Refine detection rules to reduce false positives or improve accuracy.
Update data dictionaries or file types being monitored.
Change policy actions such as block, alert, or allow.
Modify user groups or applications covered by the policy.
Align the policy with updated compliance or security requirements.
Edit a DLP policy when:
Sensitive data patterns or formats change.
New applications are added to the environment.
Business roles or user groups are restructured.
A policy is generating unexpected alerts or blocks.
Security requirements evolve but the policy intent remains the same.
1. To edit a policy, Navigate to Data Protection and click on Edit icon for the policy you want to edit in Zaperon admin dashboard.
2. Update the required policy details and click Next. You can modify policy settings in Basic info or DLP conditions tab. For detailed guidance on each field and configuration options. → Refer to Create a DLP Policy page.
3. Review the changes carefully to ensure they align with your security objectives and then click Save to apply the changes.
4. Once the policy is updated successfully, a confirmation message appears indicating that the changes have been saved and the policy is now applied.
After editing a Data Leak Prevention (DLP) policy, you can continue to manage its lifecycle based on your security and operational requirements. Zaperon allows administrators to control how and where a policy is enforced without recreating it.
You can temporarily pause enforcement of a DLP policy to test changes or troubleshoot by disabling the policy. Policies can also be reassigned or applied to different user groups to ensure data protection controls remain aligned with organizational roles and access needs.
If a DLP policy is no longer required, it can be permanently deleted to keep policy management clean and reduce unnecessary rule evaluation.
For detailed instructions, refer to the Enable / Disable Policy, Apply Policy to Group, or Delete Policy sections.
→ Refer to Enable/Disable DLP Policy.
→ Refer to Apply DLP Policy to Group.
→ Refer to Delete a DLP Policy.
Editing a DLP policy ensures your data protection strategy remains accurate, effective, and aligned with real-world usage. By updating conditions, actions, and scope, administrators can quickly adapt to changing security needs without disrupting existing controls.
